Wheels up!!

And just like that...24 hours after we talked to Hermana Harris, we received notification on 3/24 that they had secured flights for them and they would be on the plane today, Thursday, March 26th.  Miracles indeed happen, and a group of missionaries from the Ecuador Quito/Quito North missions are airborne and expected to arrive in the US in just a few short hours.  Our daughter’s Ecuador days are officially ended and it’s bittersweet!  We are excited to see her soon!!!

Winding Things Down in Ecuador

This is Allie’s mom posting again. Winding Things Down in Ecuador  Just got off the phone with Allie.    We got to talk to her for 10 minutes instead of 6 and during the phone call she said we could call her back and talk for 20 more minutes!     It was the best surprise to be able to talk to her for 30 minutes!    It was the fastest phone call.    So much to say so little time.    My predictions were dead wrong and it was NOT a tear-filled phone call at all!!    (She is good at compartmentalizing her feelings and not being emotional about everything, obviously!) It was so good to hear her voice - we haven’t heard it for at least a month or maybe two.    She was very interested in what was going on in the US because she doesn’t know anything.    She has no clue about the severity of the Coronavirus world crisis here or there!    Which is probably a good thing.    We q...

Update on Hna Harris amid the Coronavirus Crisis

Hermana Harris will be coming home in just a few weeks. Airports in Ecuador are closed until April 5th/6th; we are praying that the opening will not be delayed and that all foreign missionaries will  be able to return to their home countries.  We feel sad that Hna Harris' time in Ecuador is almost over - but fortunate that she will be reassigned to a different mission here in the States after her 14-day quarantine.  She has grown to love the people and culture there, and we have been blessed to witness the growth of our missionary.  Someday when things are back to normal we will go and visit Ecuador.   Hna Harris is currently on lockdown in her apartment with her companion, Hna Oswald, her first companion in the MTC.  What a tender mercy that they got to be companions in the field.  We love Hna Oswald!  Last week when we talked to Hna Harris, she was sad that 30 Elders had gone back home because of the current situation, and she was gett...

Halfway!!!

Hello everyone! Yes, me and Hna Oswald hit our HALFWAY MARK today!!!  Time has flown by and we can't believe that we'll be home in December.  We´ll be celebrating today by going to Quito in a few minutes here and getting my emergency ROOT CANAL... the doctors had to move it to tonight before the entire country shuts down.  That being said, this week has been CRAZY. Any missionary (at least in my mission´s area) who has 4 months or less until their release date is being sent home immediately and honorably released, which is so sad!  My heart was breaking for all the missionaries who had to leave earlier than they expected. On top of that, for the next 2 weeks we can´t leave the house because of coronavirus spreading... and Hna O & I have already been stuck in the house all week because she´s been so sick - shoutout to her parasite! :´)   It´s crazy how fast everything seems to be going downhill here.  But, I am so thankful ...

Evil Dentists and BFF Comps!

Buenas tardes!! We just got transfers yesterday and guess who´s my comp... that´s right HERMANA OSWALD!!!!!!  I literally screamed when I got the call, Hna O and I were MTC comps and are best friends!  I am beyond excited for this transfer in Cotama with her, but I am really gonna miss Hna Anibarro! Welp, for the other part of my title.  Long story short, I had the WORST dentist appt of my LIFE!  One of my fillings was bad so it had to get replaced.  The dentist tells me, "I don´t like working with anesthesia, so just tell me if it hurts and I´ll give you anesthesia!" So I´m thinking, this won´t hurt too bad.  She starts drilling and I start wincing in pain and the dentist goes, "Does it hurt?" YES.  "But is it bearable?"  I said I guess... So she continues.  Then it hurts even WORSE and I tell them to stop.  Dentist says "Do you want anesthesia?"  YES PLEASE.  "Well, we´re almost done.  Can we continue?"...

A dog bit me and I´m still upset about it

Good afternoon to everyone except to the dog that bit me :) Ok I´m being dramatic but YES I got bitten (bit? bitten? I´m forgetting english?) by a dog for the first time in my mission.  I was just walking along in the village, minding my own business, the dog was walking by us minding his own business, and then he just comes behind me and bites me in the leg and tries to attack us?!  The audacity.  Don´t fret though, I´m rabies free (so far) but I do have a pretty sweet bruise from it. #blessed Other than that, not much new stuff happened this week.  We got to stop by at Lesli and David´s (our miracle baptism) wedding reception for a minute, found someone to teach, and ate some weird animal parts like usual!  It´s been a good week here in Cotama (other than the dog bite...yes still being dramatic), and I get to go back to the city to QUITO for the day tomorrow for a dentist appointment!!!  Stay tuned to see if the toothac...

After the tribulation comes the BAPTISM!

Ima nasha ta cangi!! The past couple days we´ve been stuck in the house, so our day to email got moved to today!  Don´t worry, this time we were in the house for Carnaval, not because the Ecuadorian government was being overthrown :´) This week was NUTS to say the least.  It started off horribly! We have been working super hard but haven´t gotten anything out of it.  We got rejected like usual, yelled at to leave people´s properties, and even laughed at while sharing our testimonies.  On top of that, we have nobody to teach.  Needless to say, we were super discouraged! BUT... a couple days later, we had a MIRACLE!  Long story short, one of the member´s cousin´s was in town from Spain to get married here, and her fiancee (who´s not a member) told her he wanted to get baptized before their wedding this week!  So, we met David and his fiancee Lesli on Thursday, and he got baptized on Saturday!  He already had been attendin...
