First Change Down, 11 To Go!

Hello everyone! This week was a good one but a hard one.  The poverty here really hit me this week after we found our investigators literally digging through dumpsters to find bottles to sell for money or to find food to eat or toys for their kids.  Then later this week, one of my investigators, Alexandra, told us she didn´t have enough money for food, not even rice... my heart literally broke.  It´s so hard seeing people have so little when you know you have so much more at home, but it´s comforting to know we can at least help them in some way by sharing the gospel to brighten their lives.   This week´s highlights: - Experienced my first hailstorm here!   - Taught a guy with 2 hook hands, but sadly didn´t get the story of how he lost both of his hands, I´ll keep y´all posted if I do get the story haha. This week I finished the Book of Mormon for the first time in Spanish!  I got to restart this week from the beginning, and now I...

Quito es mió, Quito es FRIÓ!

Hello everyone! This week has been a great one here in Ponceano.  "Winter" has started a bit early this year, so it´s been even colder than usual and has been more stormy, but I would take the cold over heat any day!   Highlights of the week: - Ate my first "crazy food", chicken gizzard soup!  Haha it actually wasn´t bad at all! - Got to visit the big city Quito to go to the mission offices.  It´s sooo nice in the city and it was fun to get to eat at super nice bakeries! This week I had an awesome experience with service.  I would say about 35% of the people that live here are Venezuelan refugees, and we´re teaching one right now.  She has 2 kids and they literally have nothing.  She came to church with us last week, and the entire ward helped them out after they found out their needs.  My comp and I got to go with the bishop to their house to drop off groceries, bedding, and lots of other basic necessities.  I was choked...

I Love Michigan!!!

Hello friends and family!! This week was a week of miracles here in Ponceano!  To explain my subject line, our area is a tiny area of city that´s in the exact shape of Michigan haha.  My old area was 6 hours by bus to get from one side to the other, and my new area is 40 minutes wide by walking.  It´s super fun here, it´s insanely hilly - think San Francisco but the lowest point is at 10,000 feet.  My legs are dead but hopefully I´ll be super muscular by the time I leave this area in a while haha!  Surprisingly, the people here are a lot more receptive to the gospel (they have a ton moee money in my new area).  We found a ton of people last week and we should have 5 people with baptismal dates this week! Funny story of the week: Everyone in my old area thought I was chinese, but everyone here thinks I´m latina (don´t know how that happened?) haha.  During a lesson this week, the woman we were teaching called me out and asked me why I wasn´t talking...

Emergency Transferred to the Jungle

...that is, the concrete jungle!  This week was WILD.  Long story short, we got emergency transferred out of our old area after we had another scary experience, this time it was otherworldly...yeah... So President pulled us out and replaced us with Elders, and now I am opening a super safe sector in Quito.  I am LOVING my new sector, mainly because I actually feel safe here haha, and I love my new trainer! Pics- - Sleepovers are the best - My new comp! - P day fun This week in our new area, we found a man on the street who has been searching for the Gospel his whole life.  It made me realize how thankful I am to have the gospel and know of the Savior´s love for us!  Don´t forget that God is only a prayer away!  I love you all and I hope this week is great for yall! Con muchísimo amor, Hermana Harris Sleepovers are the best P-Day fun My new comp
