Bugs and Baptisms

To explain my title, I would like to explain the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life. One morning this week I woke up with an earache.  I thought I had an ear infection or something, but when I was brushing my teeth, the Quito equivalent of a cockroach fell out of my ear.  Basically I wanted to die inside and I FREAKED out.  Lemme tell ya, there is no feeling worse than having a large insect come out of your ear.  Love my life.  Later, I called the mission nurses and they told me to get this stuff to inject into my ear.  The bug bit me in my ear canal so it hurt super bad.  I really freaked out last night because the nurses called to tell me they would call me next week just in case the insect had laid eggs in my ear.  Please pray for me because RIP. On a much better note, this week I had my first 2 baptisms!  Andreína y Andrés finally got to be baptized!!  Everything went smoothly and the Spiri...

Bread of Life

Hello everyone! It`s been another great week here in Quito.  This week I`m going to have my first 2 baptisms!  Our investigator, Andreìna, and her son, Andrès, were supposed to get baptized last week, but because of the riots it had to get pushed to this week.  We are so excited for them!! This week we showed up at Andreìna`s house to teach them, and there was a grown man sitting on the floor crying.  He was another Venezuelan who came here to find work and a better life, but he had just lost the only job he could find (there are basically no jobs here), so he was going to leave on a one month long walk back to Venezuela so he could at least be with his family.  So, we gave him a Book of Mormon, bought him a loaf of bread, and sent him on his way.  It was so humbling and honestly really sad... he could pack all his possessions into a backpack and a little duffel bag, and he didn`t even have a penny to travel. Because he couldn`t take buses bac...

Freedom at Last!

To start off my update, I´d like to share a scripture:   "I write unto you again that ye may know that I am yet alive; but I write somewhat of that which is grievous." (Moroni 9:1) Haha to say the least, this week has been nuts!  The riots have finally come to an end though.  A brief summary of what happened this week: - All the stores in our area were robbed by Otavalans (the indigenous people) - Ecuador officially went into a state of emergency - Food supply was cut off because all the trucks taking food to supermarkets were robbed - Lots of fires and large groups of people yelling right in front of our house - Nobody could legally leave their house or the military would have the right to arrest them - People finally wanted peace, so everyone in Quito made loud noises by banging pots and pans all night long (a symbol of peace apparently) - Church cancelled in all of Quito on Sunday  - The riots finally ended and everything is back t...

Still Alive, so here’s some pics

Hola otra vez...  We found out this morning we get to have a 2 hour pday before it gets dangerous to be outside, so I figured I´d send some pics from this week since that´s what y´all are on my list for! 1. It was Alexandra´s brithday this week, so we brought cakes to her house and had a fiesta!  She was so happy and told us this year was the first birthday she´s been happy, which broke my heart but it made us so happy we were there to celebrate with her. 2. Had to take a pic with Alexandra´s favorite pose, the thumbs up... notice she´s even making her cat do it haha! 3. Helado con queso!  Aka ice cream with cheese on top.  One of my favorite treats in Ecaudor! 4. Ran into one of my favorite members from my old sector!

Riots, Russians, and accused murderers?

Hi everyone!  This week´s email is gonna be real short because I have 5 mins to write it haha.  Long story short, the gas prices went up this week by 50 cents so there have been tons of riots, so our pday got cancelled tomorrow.  This week has been literally the most stressful week of my life haha but hopefully everything gets cleared up soon! This week´s highlights: - Began teaching a Russian who escaped Russia after being brainwashed and hypnotized by a company she worked for, went to Thailand and was still followed by a Russian spy, so she moved here to Ecuador!  We get to teach her in English because she speaks Russian, French, and English, but not Spanish.  I´ve learned I can´t teach in Spanish, but I REALLY can´t teach in English, haha! - Started teaching a guy who told us he has only been in prison 8 times, lol!  One of the times he told us he was accused of murdering a guy, but he said he didn´t do it (?) haha.  He´s chang...
