Jesus es mi LUZ (MTC Week 3)

Hola mi familia y mis amigos!

It's been another great week here and I am still loving it.  The hardest part is that I want to go out into the "real world" so bad, it kills having BYU being across the street, and the apartment I lived in is right out the window of where I study every day, but only 3.5 more weeks until ECUADOR!!!

This week I started reading the Book of Mormon again, but this time focusing on all the times it mentions faith.  It's incredible how much faith Nephi has even during times of hardship.
In 1 Nephi 17:13 it says:
"And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; ... and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led."
A common theme throughout the scriptures is wilderness, and we all have our "personal wildernesses" so to speak -- times in our lives where we feel lost and are put in new, difficult situations.  I love that if we put our trust in and turn to God during these times, He can lead us through any "wilderness" in our lives, no matter how difficult it may be.  Isn't it wonderful that the most intelligent, incredible Being in the universe is on our side if we only do what is right?

Highlights:
- Gave my first talk in Spanish at church!!  Everyone prepares talks on a certain topic and at church, they announce the speakers, so nobody knows if they are going to give a talk until the minute before.  It went really well and the MTC President (who just happened to be in our sacrament meeting that day) and Branch Presidency wouldn't stop complimenting me on my spanish and my accent!  *weird flex but ok*
- Taught my first (and 2nd & 3rd) TRC, which means we teach a native spanish speaker here at the MTC. Hna O & I were surprised we could speak enough spanish to talk and teach for 25 mins!
- Last p day I talked to this elder while we were waiting for our laundry, and he leaves on Monday.  Yesterday he found me while my comp and I were working out and asked me for my email so he could write me.... aka the equivalent of asking someone out here in the MTC.  Let's just say it was pretty awkward lol!!
- Singing "Jesus es mi Luz" (The Lord is my Light, a hymn) all day, every day. No kidding.

Pics:
- Hna O and I had to take the classic map pic
- My actual reaction to getting edible food to eat here :,)
- How we cope with studying spanish for 9+ hours a day... lol!!!
- Hna O snapped this hilarious pic of me longingly staring out the window at my home, BYU :,) we laugh so hard at this pic because I look like a sad dog who just wants to go outside!
- The cool drinks we make at dinner

I'm thankful for all the love and prayers!!  I love and appreciate you all and I hope this week is awesome for each one of you.

Con todo mi amor,
Hna Harris

A dog bit me and I´m still upset about it

Good afternoon to everyone except to the dog that bit me :) Ok I´m being dramatic but YES I got bitten (bit? bitten? I´m forgetting english?) by a dog for the first time in my mission.  I was just walking along in the village, minding my own business, the dog was walking by us minding his own business, and then he just comes behind me and bites me in the leg and tries to attack us?!  The audacity.  Don´t fret though, I´m rabies free (so far) but I do have a pretty sweet bruise from it. #blessed Other than that, not much new stuff happened this week.  We got to stop by at Lesli and David´s (our miracle baptism) wedding reception for a minute, found someone to teach, and ate some weird animal parts like usual!  It´s been a good week here in Cotama (other than the dog bite...yes still being dramatic), and I get to go back to the city to QUITO for the day tomorrow for a dentist appointment!!!  Stay tuned to see if the toothac...

Still Here!

Alóóóó! Well, last week was nuts, and this week was even MORE nuts!  One of the hnas we share a ward with got emergency transferred to the coast, and the rest of us still haven`t received our changes.  So, I still don`t know where I`ll be headed this week!  Until we get our changes, I`ve been in a TRIO with Hnas Jeppson and Achocalla, my 2 hijas!  So I`m double-training right now haha. I am really thankful for everyone who sent me supportive emails this week, it really means a lot!  The mission has been crazy, but I have learned a ton here.  I am so thankful God shows us the things we fault so we can learn to become better people. Better said in Ether 12:27-28, which sums it up: 27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their aweakness. I bgive unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my cgrace is sufficient for all men that dhumble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make eweak...

Temporary Reassignment

Hermana Harris did not know whether or not she would leave for Ecuador on August 19th, because she hadn't gotten her visa.  Today she got reassigned to the West Virginia Charleston Mission while she waits for her visa.  Because of the uncertainty about her travel plans, Hermana Harris along with her district, was allowed to communicate with us all week about their reassignments and changes in travel plans.
